Chastity and I made our way to Fargo, North Dakota this weekend, and had a tremendous time at the ND BBQ CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! Thankful for the help from a true pit master, Kevin Huber. I honestly don’t know if the cook could have went any smoother, and we were not disappointed with a single turn in. We took 7th in pork, and finished with a 10th overall against 74 of the best teams from all across the country. I started doing competition BBQ not because I thought I was a good cook, but definitely wanted to be. I wanted to be the best for the Lord, and today He let me give him the best we have ever done. Congratulations to Blaine and Porky Butts for their Grand Championship, and Six Butts BBQ on the RGC. We only signed up for two competitions this year. So, can’t complain about today, and will look forward to September. Thank you for following along with Cross Cut BBQ!!!

We picked up our first smoker for Cross Cut BBQ four years ago today. I had a friend say, “I’m going to call that smoker The Five Thousand, and pray God will feed five thousand people through it.” God has definitely done “exceeding abundantly above” anything we could imagine through Cross Cut BBQ!!! After serving thousands of meals through disaster relief, and a lot of cooking last year, the cooker was looking a little rough, and had developed a crack in the fire box. Thought this was a blessing and pretty interesting. My sweet wife and teammate sent me a message today saying she saw a list of KCBS Team Of The Year rankings for teams that did five or fewer contests. There were 1,139 teams listed, and this is where Cross Cut BBQ ended. I believe the Lord allowed us to have a great year…

We believed God wanted us to purchase this trailer three years ago. We could never have dreamed how much God would use it, and how many thousands of people would be helped through some of the darkest days of their life. Thankful you can trust the leadership of the Lord, even when it makes absolutely no sense to us. What A God!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

We traveled 140 miles north this weekend to compete in the ND BBQ Championships. We have had an amazing night year with 15th, 12th, 5th, and 9th place finishes. It has been our most consistent year to date. Well, today was not our day. Honestly thought it was our best cook ever. Best we did was 11th in pork with on judge giving us 7’s on presentation and taste. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Think we ended up with our worst placement ever finishing 30th.

Had a tremendous time with dear friends, and I get to go home with my wife. So, I’ll count that as a win. Ironically, got a text on our way home from a preacher who was at a men’s retreat we cooked for. He said, “food was awesome!” Seems the Lord reminded me why we do this. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Best part of the weekend other than spending time with with friends was our neighbor saying, “God knew what He was doing putting us beside you because my family really needs prayer.” Yes, we had prayer meeting right there. Please be in prayer for Phen. He is five months old, and in need of a touch from God. Thanks for being on this journey with us!!!
