A company has developed a butter alternative made from carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and oxygen. No cows. No milk. No cream. The product was commercially launched in 2025, initially targeting restaurants and bakeries.
The United States imports beef from other countries, and federal law doesnât require grocery stores to identify the country of origin on most beef and pork. You could be buying imported beef without realizing it. đŤŞ
Meanwhile, Wisconsin lost 6,272 farms between 2017 and 2022. American Farmland Trust projects that another 515,236 acres of Wisconsin farmland could be converted to other uses by 2040 if current trends continue.
At what point do we realize that having grocery stores full of food doesnât necessarily mean we have options?
Bread that stays soft for weeks. Peanut butter with added sugar and hydrogenated oils. Coffee creamers made from water, sugar, and vegetable oils instead of cream.
Weâve become so accustomed to these products that we rarely question whatâs actually in them.
And thatâs what I want to change.
When this all started, my intention was to connect families with local farms.
But the mission has grown since then.
I donât want families to just buy their meat or eggs locally. I want to help replace as much of our weekly grocery shopping as possible with better options from farms and small businesses right here in our communities.
Maybe our bread doesnât last three weeks - but thatâs because it wasnât made to.
Maybe our peanut butter separates - thatâs because itâs made from peanuts instead of added stabilizers.
Maybe our milk has cream that rises to the top - thatâs because it hasnât been homogenized.
Sure, some products have a shorter shelf life. Some cost a little more. But consider what youâre getting for your money.
When you buy a jar of peanut butter from a local business, youâre not just buying peanut butter.
Youâre helping someone purchase ingredients for their next batch, pay their bills, support their family, and build a business theyâve probably poured everything they have into.
When you buy meat from a local farmer, youâre helping pay for feed, veterinary care, processing, and the expenses that determine whether they can afford to keep farming.
Youâre supporting families right here, and youâre supporting their dreams.

These are things weâre already buying every week. Weâre not asking families to spend money on things they donât need. Weâre giving them another place to purchase the things they do.
Because while weâre spending billions of dollars supporting grocery chains and large food corporations, the farms in our own communities are disappearing.
And thatâs where I believe we can make a difference.
