Deadline for the Georgia National Fair swine show is August 1st this year.

The breeding gilt show will begin after showmanship on 10/16. We have three purebred Hampshire breeding gilts available. By appointment, only.

Dear National Swine Registry Leadership,
I respectfully request the reinstatement of the Open Boar Show in Perry, Georgia. This longstanding event has played a vital role in the purebred swine industry, particularly for breeders and exhibitors in the Southeast. Its removal has created significant challenges for those who rely on this show for access, evaluation, and advancement of highquality breeding stock.
The Open Boar Show in Perry has a long and meaningful history. For many years, it has served as an essential gathering point where breeders from across the United States come together to exhibit livestock, exchange knowledge, and strengthen the genetic progress of their herds. Its tradition and impact cannot be overstated.
One of the most important aspects of the Perry show is the opportunity for inperson evaluation. Breeders depend on being able to physically assess boars for structure, soundness, muscling, and overall quality—factors that cannot be accurately judged through photos or videos. This handson evaluation is fundamental to responsible herd improvement and informed purchasing decisions.
The removal of the Open Boar Show from the Southeast has severely limited access to highquality breeding stock for breeders in this region. Many rely on the Perry show as their primary opportunity to view elite animals without the burden of extensive travel. Its absence creates a geographic disadvantage that disproportionately affects Southeast breeders.
Additionally, shifting the Open Boar Show to an onlineonly auction format introduces significant concerns. Online sales increase the likelihood of fraud, misrepresentation, and bid shilling, and they reduce transparency for buyers. These issues undermine confidence in the marketplace and weaken the integrity of the selection process.
The Open Boar Show also provides a unique and irreplaceable opportunity for breeders to have their boars evaluated alongside animals from across the United States. This national comparison is essential for tracking trends, identifying emerging genetics, and maintaining competitiveness within the industry. Without this event, Southeast breeders lose access to valuable insight and genetic advancement that would not otherwise reach the region.
For these reasons, I respectfully urge the National Swine Registry to reinstate the Open Boar Show in Perry, Georgia. Restoring this event would support breeders, strengthen regional participation, and uphold the standards of excellence and transparency that the NSR represents.
