Happy New Year from all of us at Pastures of Rose Creek! We are looking forward to seeing what 2025 has in store. We know you have been itching to know about the future of the farm so here we go...
Meet Clint & Alexandra McNeal and their dog, Hoss. They have been running Habitat Ranch in Winterville since June of 2022. They do things right, focusing on regenerative agriculture, rotational grazing, and land conservation to guide them in raising their cattle. If you are local to the Athens area, you may not have heard of them. That's because they don't sell at markets, but rather have sold half and whole cows through a private network.
I met Clint for the first time soon after he got his first herd of cattle and was blown away at the passion he has for the work, and for the wellbeing of both the cows and the land they occupy. I knew right away that he and Will would be kindred spirits. Clint and Will met a few times to trade ideas in that first year, and hoped to continue the relationship.
Fast forward to this fall as Lori was trying to figure out the future of Pastures of Rose Creek... Clint and Alexandra had finished with their herd of cows in the spring and had been taking a break to travel and reevaluate a future in farming. They had decided to sell their land in Winterville, but Clint was still feeling a tug towards ranching. He heard through the grapevine that we might want to lease our land and they came out to see the property. Over the course of the fall, Clint has been tending to our cows and our pasture, and as of today, Clint and Alexandra are leasing the pastures here at Rose Creek. They will officially take over the care of our remaining Piedmontese Cross finishing herd, and will be bringing in new calves of their own as ours are harvested. Habitat Ranch will continue to operate as they were, but they will be on our land moving forward.
We have full faith that Clint and Alexandra will be the best stewards of this land, and we can't wait to see how things develop for them.
As for our beef, we got 2 cows back from the butcher just before the end of the market season and still have plenty to sell. We will keep the farmstand well stocked so you can buy from us there on the honor system as you have been. We are open sunup to sundown and take cash, check, Venmo, or CashApp. If you are looking for specific cuts or quantities that you don't see in the farmstand, feel free to shoot us an email to [email protected] and we can pack your order up for pickup or possibly delivery. There won't be more cows ready to go to the processor until March, so we will be running low in the next few months, but we plan to work with Habitat Ranch to source meat for our farmstand while they are working with us. More details to come on that as they sort themselves out.
We love you all and are so grateful for your continued support during this transition.
