Our favorite chicken Geranium, disappeared earlier this summer and reemerged from her hiding spot with 5 beautiful chicks. She’s been broody before but never successful hatching her eggs. This old gal has been slowing down on egg production but she dutifully saved her recent eggs to sit on and we’re so proud of her.

Meet the Gloucestershire Old Spots!

The Gloucestershire Old Spots is the oldest pedigreed spotted pig breed. Once known as the "orchard pig," it thrived on windfall apples, dairy by-products and c***r pressings on small family farms. British folklore even claims its distinctive black spots were bruises from falling apples. Listed as Threatened on the Conservation Priority List.

For all the challenges that come with farming, moments like this remind us how fortunate we are.

But we wouldn't trade sunsets with the pigs, the sound of the pasture settling down for the night, or the chance to raise our family alongside this land.

What a gift this life is. 🌅🐖🌳

Next up on updates: the pigs! 🐖🐖🐖

This spring we’ve welcomed three adult pigs for the purpose of breeding. They are Gloucestershire Old Spots, a hertiage breed originating from England. Last year we raised some feeders and were happy with their growth rate and temperament. In future posts I’ll share more about each of them. Stay tuned!
