This may be one of the last opportunities the Ruby's Pantry Waupaca group has to address all of its followers and we wanted to share with you our gratitude for the program and the opportunity it gave us in the Waupaca Community.
Over the past several years, that the Waupaca Christian Church(WCC) has hosted Ruby's Pantry, over 26,400 bundles of food have been distributed.
Hosting Ruby's Pantry is a great deal of work. You can all see the amount of effort that it takes on the day of distribution, but there are many more time consuming tasks that need to happen as well. It is a very big job, and WCC has a very small congregation.
The question as to whether or not WCC was willing to become a host distribution site was brought forth at an annual meeting and the congregation unanimously voted yes.
From a church with such a small congregation, this seems ridiculously unwise at worst, or ridiculously ambitious at best. Realistically, it was probably something that couldn't be done, just based on the size of the church. That said, the members of WCC remembered the words of one of its founding members, Effie Lawson, "Everything we have done, has been impossible so we might as well just do it".
Decision made, that still left the problem of having enough volunteers to get the product out on distribution day.
That is where the wonderful Waupaca community came in and stepped up in the biggest way possible. We have had the absolute most wonderful individuals come in month after month in all weather solely because they were truly good humans who wanted to be sure that anyone in need of food or a kind word would get it. We are truly grateful for these individuals and are sincerely hoping that there will be opportunities to see them again.
We would also like to thank all of you, the individuals who utilized Ruby's Pantry. Some of you came to supplement your monthly grocery budget, and some love a good bargain. There were also many others who utilized Ruby's because times were exceptionally hard and Ruby's provided almost all of your groceries for the month. To you especially we say thank you. Our culture seems to value independence and self sufficiency and attaches a certain amount of shame to needing help. You came even though it might not have been comfortable, and allowed us to be a part of helping. That was a gift and a huge blessing to all of our volunteers. Thank you for coming, thank you for asking for help when it was hard. We hope you will continue to ask for help when you need it, and will get to be a helper yourself when you can. We have no doubt that you will.
Thank you and God bless you all.
If anyone has any kind words that we can pass on to our volunteers, please leave them in our comments.
