Howdy! If you're new here, thanks for hoping on the 840 Farm ride. If you've been here a while, thanks for being part of this journey so far.
For those of you who are new to following us, we are Amber and Jay, founders, owners, and operators of this "little farm who could", 840 Farm.
In August of 2019 we picked up our Dallas Texas life and moved slightly south of the metroplex to Waxahachie. What started out as a place with more space to raise our sons and a homesteading idea, turned into a bustling farm, social media accounts, websites, and idea after idea of what's next.
Our first three Mangalitsa pigs showed up in early 2020. It seems like yesterday we were in our backyard, building a small circular pen to contain these three beautiful animals. Soon, larger fences were built, then torn down to only be rebuilt again. Every single day was a learning process. We'd be lying if we said all these lessons were fun. As you can imagine, living a life on the farm is difficult, albeit very rewarding.
We quickly realized we had to share this rare breed of pig, and the farm continued to grow.
Eventually landing a spot at St. Michael's Farmers Market in Dallas, 840 Farm grew by leaps and bounds with this locale. Our local base of customers grew quickly. Soon after, we added our website and learned what we could about e-commerce, websites, shipping, etc. Have I already mentioned how some lessons aren't that fun?
Learning how to butcher animals was a natural growth area for us. It has helped us understand the animals and our customers needs, greatly. Respect for life and our food grew immensely.
In the last several years, we've added heritage chicken and lamb to our farm. As with everything raised here, all livestock is pasture and raised fed a non corn, non soy, and non gmo diet. Perhaps that's a future post?!?!?
Five years later, you can see find us every Saturday morning attending the Saint Michael's Farmers Market. HOPEFULLY, soon we'll have our newest dream open and serving the Ellis County Community, a butcher shop call The Blind Pig Butchery and Market.
If you've read this far, thank you. Thank you for standing up with us for what the food industry should be. Thank you for supporting this accidental dream of farm and retail business ownership. God Bless you all.
