Sometimes I forget how far this all goes back.🌱

The little girl who loved picking flowers in the yard…
who made tiny bouquets for fun! Who thought selling flowers at a little table on the side of the road was the coolest thing…

She’s still here. Just a little older now.

STEMS didn’t start as a business idea.
It started as a love for flowers, and the joy of creating something beautiful.

Now that little girl can tell her story along the way!

Happy Floral Design Day from STEMS💐

There is something so powerful about creating with your hands. Slowing down. Touching the stems. Smelling the blooms. Letting yourself be fully present in the process.

Today isn’t just about arranging flowers. It was about connection - to nature, to each other, and to ourselves.

Designing with flowers invites a kind of calm that is hard to put into words. The colors, the textures, the movement of each stem - it gently pulls you out of your head and into the moment. In a world that moves so fast, creation becomes a form of care. Nature becomes therapy. Beauty becomes grounding.

At STEMS, floral design is more than aesthetics. It’s confidence building. It’s creative expression. It’s leadership development. It’s watching young students realize that they are capable of bringing something beautiful into the world - and that they can build something meaningful from it.

There is mental strength in creating. There is healing in working with the earth. There is empowerment in seeing your idea come to life in your hands.

Floral Design Day reminds us that growth isn’t just happening in the soil - it’s happening within each of us.

So grateful for the opportunity to have STEMS Flower Company collaborate with Northbridge Companies once again, at Lee’s Farm in Wayland, Massachusetts.

This photo-shoot and experience was a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when mission-driven organizations come together to create something meaningful for the community.

I absolutely love working alongside Wendy Nowokunski, Jim Coughlin, and Jennifer Hastings who continue to value community, creativity, and impact as much as we do. Looking forward to so much more for our 2026 season!

Meet the Co-Founder & President:

Cassie McGonagle is the co-founder and President of STEMS Wayland, a sustainable cut-flower business and mentorship program based in Wayland, Massachusetts. She launched STEMS in 2020 alongside friends and the mentorship of , with the goal of creating a space where young women could learn hands-on entrepreneurial skills while working with, and understanding sustainable ways of flower farming. Under Cassie’s leadership, STEMS has grown from an idea to a business with retail space at , located on community. Cassie oversees everything from planting and harvesting to branding, marketing, and community partnerships, all while ensuring STEMS stays rooted in sustainability, creativity, and leadership.

Beyond flowers, Cassie’s true passion lies in empowering the next generation of young women leaders. Through STEMS, she has built a mentorship model where students gain confidence, business skills, and leadership experience in a supportive and collaborative environment.

As a current senior at the , Cassie balances academics with her role at STEMS, continuing to expand its impact on sustainability and women’s empowerment. She envisions STEMS not only as a flower business, but as a movement that inspires environmental responsibility, intergenerational connections, and the power of young women working together to create lasting change.
