We are a family owned vineyard and farm in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. For four generations and over 80 years we have been raising deliciously sweet and juicy Concord and Niagara grape varieties -- perfect for snacking, juice, jelly, and Virginia wines. Come to the farm during our September harvest and taste for yourself.

How do grape farmers celebrate a September birthday? Why, Concord Grape Cake, of course! I make no claims to be good at cake decorating, but this one was fun to eat, for sure. Several jars of our Wenger's Concord Grape Jam turned this into a straight forward task with tasty results and purple tongues.

The search is on for those last clusters of grape goodness. Open today at the farm for Pick Your Own at discounted prices, and a few Sunbelt and Niagara prepicked while supplies last. Niagaras and Sunbelt are easier to pick; Concords are a hunt! Come on out for some fall outdoor fun for all ages.

Niagara! The mellow sister to Concords, the "white grape juice" secret...but the honey-flavored, easier to pick option at this point of the season. Give it a try! Makes great snacking or juice that mixes well with all sorts drinks. We'll be opening some new Concord rows in the back field on Saturday for Pick Your Own, too. Don't delay--almost the end of the short season this year.

Open today, Friday, Aug 29! We'll be open Saturday and Monday of this holiday weekend for Pick Your Own Concord and Niagara grapes, and Mondays through Saturdays in September as long as supplies last. Don't delay. Pre-picked quarts also available. Sorry, no pre-picked bulk orders, Charlottesville or Staunton farmers markets or Newport News delivery this year.

Opening Friday, August 29 for Pick Your Own! Due to spring freezes and a smaller crop, pre-picked grapes will likely be limited to quarts this season. But there are plenty of PYO grapes -- plan time to enjoy the vineyards and fill your basket.

The Concord grape aroma -- it often catches me off guard in the weeks leading up to harvest. Maybe yesterday's rain brought it on, but in the moist early morning air, the scent was robust. The grapes are transitioning from their summer greens toward the harvest blues. Grape harvest is around the corner! Mark your calendars for the first two weeks of September -- see you then.

We made a fresh batch of Concord and Niagara juice this week with Virginia Food Works! We look forward to bringing it to you at upcoming winter farmers markets at IX in Charlottesville and Staunton -- stay tuned for details. Gratefulness abounds here at the farm for a stellar season before the rain! Find the best selection of our grapes today at the Charlottesville Farmers Market at IX Art Park. If you want to walk around the vineyards, find a few nibbles, and enjoy the sunshine, we are open at the farm with a grapes available that were picked before the rains (while supplies last), plus jams and grape butters. Pick Your Own is a squishy adventure--few Niagaras but flavor is more watery after 7 inches of rain from Helene. You are welcome take up the scavenger hunt challenge if you choose.

Get your gleaning galoshes on! It's discount time for Pick Your Own grapes: 80 cents per pound, Concords and Niagaras. Lots of good looking Niagaras left; lots of Concords left, but slower picking. LAST WEEK for already-picked grapes -- call in your order if you can't get here this week.

Concord Grapes have been with us for 175 years! A cultivar of the native fox grape (Vitis labrusca), Ephraim Bull in 1849 developed what he called a Concord, which give the flavor we recognize today as "grape". If you haven't tried a Concord before, it's a very different eating experience than their cousins, Vitis vinifera, most wine grapes and the crunchy grapes commonly sold in grocery stores.
