I've got some exciting news for everyone here. Our original lease terms for this whole section was to set to expire in April 2027. As now, we have officially signed our first extension! This means that Roscoe's Pizza will be here for many more years to come.
Honestly, there were some times in the past where there were discussions about just pulling the plug due to all the nonsense we were dealing with. At one point it was like "Ehh let's try to make it through the end of the lease and see."
There was a point back in 2022 when things were not going very well for us and discussed folding altogether. Why? Well, in 2020 Roscoe's Pizza was brand new. We tried expanding to a second location in New Vienna, Ohio as well as expanding here with the add on of Coletrane's of Corwin. The second location shut down, and the liquor license for Coletranes had more delays than you could ever imagine.
For several months in 2022, all of the money from this business was going to paying off equipment here, stuff from the New Vienna store, as well as covering the rent at electricity and other stuff at Coletranes. NOT FUN!
One day, it was around the time of the Ohio Renaissance Festival started in 2022 we were in RALLY BAD SHAPE when waiting on the liquor license. I was talking to someone from there who suggested just posting about it in one of the fan groups because there's a lot of people who join them and come to the area for one day. I'm pretty sure it was Bryant but could be wrong.
Made a good post about our pizza and WOW! We were able to fill up here and the Coletranes dining room without any alcohol for the next several weeks and it literally saved the business. The bar kept getting delayed and we had to sell the extra oven from the old New Vienna store at a massive loss to lower the payments.
Eventually the bar opened (April 2023)- but we still weren't exactly thriving. Had a whole host other issues and a ton of debt from all the delays and other issues. Eventually paid off all the equipment from this store, and most of the problems went away at the start of 2024 when we began closing Mondays.
The last few years have been a breeze in comparison. It went from struggling to thriving! Look, a lot of restaurants that shut down don't necessarily "fail" in the traditional sense of the word. A lot of the times it's just because people get sick of dealing with certain aspects of the business, wait until the lease is up, and move onto something else. We renewed the lease here!
I'd really to thank everyone who helped make this possible. Every customer who came in, minus the few who have had temper tantrums. Also, to every registered voter in this precinct who signed the petition for the Coletrane's of Corwin liquor license add on and then voted "yes" in favor of the permit! Without the permit, we would probably be moving to a different spot.
Need to give some special shoutouts:
Eric at 42 Auto. He's placed more orders here than anyone else! Currently at 371.
Bryant at the Ohio Renaissance Festival. He's coordinated so many large orders for all the workers there after hours, and I'm pretty sure he's the one who recommended posting in the Renaissance group.
Dean, now at Aberlin Springs, for placing the largest individual order in Roscoe's Pizza history for a marine reunion.
Chris, for being the first person to try 100 different specialty pizzas! (The crazy thing is, he tried them all in just over a year.)
If I gave shoutouts to every single customer I could, this post would be a book.
Now, some shout outs for some food influencers. There's a lot that could be mentioned here........ but here it goes:
Da Garbage Disposal and A guy named Eli for their food challenge video of our former Clintonburger.
The challenge was almost 4 years ago now and I still get people coming in saying they heard about us from that video. There's a group from Washington Courthouse that has tried over 100 pizzas, all from that video. Just three weeks ago I had a conversation with someone who grew up in Centerville and saw the video pop up so he made a trip here when he was visiting his parents.
Malena Brown TV. She had an ultra viral TikTok that got like 1 million views. "Best Pizza in Ohio!" She used to be a local newscaster in Dayton but took a position at a new station in PA. Hopefully she loves it there! She got a smaller influencer, Sway Eats on Instagram, who later made it into a brief Dominos commercial featured during an NFL game to come in here.
Then a super special shoutout to Mullet review. He was just a micro influencer with 1,600 followers when he came in. Had no idea who he was. He had only been to about 10 places before us and said he had followed us for years. He paid full menu price, and posted a picture himself holding several boxes. I thought it was cool and shared it. Now he's blown up to millions across platforms and is able to do food content full time. Couldn't be more happy for him.
Lastly all the former/current restaurant owners and operators who have been willing to give valuable advice. Most are out of the business now, but the existing one for the food section would Roma’s Pizza&Pasta. From the upgrades to Grande Cheese Foodservice to recommending a supplier rep who helped upgrade our buns and other great products - along with the final inspiration behind following through on DoorDash.
For the bar section, it would be The Marysville Sports Pub. They're like an hour and a half away and had an ad out selling a bunch of booths and tables. The stuff looked nice from the pictures and purchased it. Took several trips up there. The owner was talking about his food. I honestly didn't think the food would be that good because of the name of the business............ a lot of places "Sports Pub" in their name aren't known for the food but I needed to eat so I tried them.
They are without a doubt the best wings in the world along with the best Tater Skins. I'll drive up there about 4 times per year. Need to make another one soon. The owner is a true foodie and he invented the Bama Warrior Pizza for Roscoe's Pizza and it's an amazing seller.
Look, we really weren't in danger of not renewing the lease - unless the landlord did something wild. The last few years have been a breeze. We were considering expanding at one point a few years ago and while we could eventually IDK if we'll find an ideal spot but it's a possibility. Either way, it's cool the renewal is official.
I think we might need to do a little celebration tomorrow. Nothing crazy, but might do something.
