Our little scholars have had a productive week acclimating well with their new group of sheep. More visitors of all ages came to meet and greet. A very successful health exam and immunization by our veterinarian. The car trip was a bit stressful with the ridiculous winds fighting the van. Only one upset tummy and a little yelping. We still have available recruits preparing for their futures on or off the farm.

Our little 3/4 Karakachan x 1/4 Anatolian greenhorns are being well catechized by their mother and the sheep. The ewe’s that have recently weaned their lambs have moved out to pasture so, now they have a group of fall ewe lambs. Our little pupils and ewes are becoming comfortable and acclimated companions. We’re enjoying learning more and more about each individual prospect’s attributes. If you’re looking for your next rookie please DM.

The pups got their first whole chicken thanks to mama Chloe. We don’t feed 100% raw, but the pups are consuming one gallon of raw goat milk, one quart of yogurt, and a dozen raw egg yolks each day. With each meal we pre soak their puppy kibble in bone broth. We fry the egg whites that don’t go in their goat milk formula. Which we add after the kibble is cool enough. We do not want to destroy the probiotic effect or those lovely nutritious enzymes.

We do not leave our five week old pups with the sheep unsupervised. The pups are not adept enough to get quickly through the higher and bigger holes in the hog panel gates. A few ewes in this group will attempt to grind young pups into the ground. Correction is important for their education, but abuse is not acceptable. One pup is rolled by an ewe, but it’s corrective and she doesn’t abuse him.

What a week of growth for these little guardians. They are enjoying their new indoor/outdoor pen. So much to see beyond the sounds and smells familiar to them. Weekly nail trims are still in order, a second worming happened this week and lots of people socialization. We are observing the potential livestock and property guardian propensities of each, hoping to discern the most successful placements. As these youngsters work toward graduation we continue to provide excellent nutrition, an appropriate environment and varied learning opportunities. Each will come with a full veterinary examination including a 72 hour health guarantee, owner support, appropriate wormings and initial immunization. Please DM if you would like to provide an employment opportunity.
