If something happened to you today, would your loved ones have a bunch of “treasures” to sort through? What are your treasures? Where are you storing them?
The Bible says in Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Today, I started helping a friend clean out her mother’s home. Her mother had a stroke a couple of months ago, and is now in a nursing home.
It feels awkward going through her treasures and deciding what to donate and throw away. My friend is NOT sentimental nor is her son in any way.
I remember when my own parents passed away. Going through all of the items that they had accumulated was a daunting task for the 5 of us kids.
Decades of storing up items that they had kept for who knows what reason whether it was sentimental , future projects, past projects, etc… almost became a burden to go through and dispose of.
Several things have been running through my thoughts today:
1. One Man’s trash is another man’s treasure
2. I need to be more aware of the amount of treasures that I am storing up so that my kids won’t be overwhelmed or burdened .
3. I need to make sure that I am storing up heavenly treasures instead of earthly ones.
4. In this country, most of us are over blessed to the point that often our closets are full, our garages and sheds are full. We have more clothes than we will ever wear, more ____________!
5. Reduce, reuse, recycle
