Some grapevines can live for 100 years—meaning a vine planted today could still be growing grapes generations from now.

With the right care and growing conditions, grapevines can have incredibly long lives. In fact, UC Davis has documented California vineyards with vines more than a century old.

There’s something pretty special about knowing the vines behind a bottle can have a story much longer than our own.

Just another reason we love the vineyard side of w**emaking as much as what ends up in the glass.

Red grapes don’t always mean red w**e.

For many red grape varieties, the juice inside is actually pale. That beautiful red color develops when the juice spends time in contact with the grape skins during w**emaking. Remove the skins early enough, and those same dark grapes can produce a white w**e.

It’s all part of the decisions that happen between the vineyard and your glass—and one of our favorite little pieces of w**e trivia.

Come put your w**e knowledge to good use with us this weekend at Dove Ridge Winery.

One grapevine. A few bottles of w**e. There’s a lot happening on those vines before a bottle ever makes it to your table.

Cornell University estimates that about 2.6 pounds of grapes are needed to produce one 750 mL bottle of w**e. In their example, a vine carrying around 7 pounds of fruit could give us roughly 2–3 bottles of dry w**e—although the actual yield can vary quite a bit from vine to vine.

Just another reason we appreciate every vine, every harvest, and every pour.

Did you know it can take roughly 600–800 grapes to make just one bottle of w**e?

That’s a whole lot of grapes for one bottle—and a pretty good reason to appreciate every pour.

According to Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the exact number can vary depending on the grape variety, berry size, vintage, and how the w**e is made.

From hundreds of grapes on the vine to one bottle on your table. We think that makes every glass a little more special.

Come enjoy a glass with us at Dove Ridge Winery this weekend.
