Marvin William Savage, 91, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Marvin was born on July 8, 1934, in Brock, son of James William and Susan Idella (Jones) Savage. He proudly and bravely served his country in the United States Army. Prior to his service, along with his brother, Leroy, Marvin was a farmer and rancher. They raised cattle and grew peanuts and watermelons.
Marvin was the parts manager for 30 years for David McDavid’s dealerships and remained friends with David until Marvin’s passing.
Marvin Savage was a legendary blown alcohol flatbottom drag boat driver who won the NDBA National High Points Championship in 1978 and dominated with his “Wild Child” boat in the 1970s and 80s. Known as a premier racer in organizations like SDBA, he famously won UFF points in 1976 and 1977 undefeated. He was known for high-speed runs, including speeds of 163-168 mph in 1983. In addition to his 1978 NDBA championship, he won the UFF (Unblown Fuel Flat) class at the Aqua Fest In Austin, Texas in 1975 shortly after entering the sport. He was a founding member of the SDBA. Marvin retired from active competition after the 1983 season. Marvin was inducted into the drag boat Hall of Fame in 2021.
Beyond the water, Marvin devoted decades to the equestrian community.
In 1984, he established Marvin Savage Farm, which became widely known for its support of equestrian eventing and emergency response and support within the Eventing community.
His commitment to the sport and its riders earned him numerous honors, including:
• Governor’s cup award – US Eventing Association (2013)
• Dr. Glynis Roth Memorial Award – Area V Young Riders
• Al Smith Award – North Texas Eventing Association (2026)
His service and leadership included:
• U.S. Eventing Association Safety Committee Member
• GM Parts Board Member – 7 Years
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his four sisters, Lorene, Fleta, Ruby, and Melba and two brothers Lloyd and Leroy.
Survivors include his dearest friend Donna Wasson-Boone, who was with him at his passing as well as Donna Lotheridge and Cherie Wilkinson. Survivors also include nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends.
Marvin Savage will always be remembered for his generosity, dedication, and unwavering support of the communities and people he loved.
