The ranch hatched its first set of chicks this year and they are growing like weeks. Unfortunately, we cannot keep them since we own their dad. They are currently looking for a new home and would make a great starter flock for someone just starting out. The 3 white ones are blue laced wyandotte crossed with a California white. The black one is suspected to be blue laced wyandotte crossed with a golden laced wyandotte.

Found familiar face while poking around the Kissimmee Valley Livestock Pavilion this weekend. For those of you who don't know him, meet Ponce. Ponce is a replica of a Spanish Andalusian bull. The same breed of cattle Ponce de Leon brought with him on his voyage to Florida in 1521. Ponce has 6 more brothers scattered around the state. All of them are painted with different images depicting Florida's rich cattle history. Why 7? Because its the same number of cattle that Ponce's namesake brought to the new world with him. These 7 would be the first cows to set foot on what would someday be America and kicked off an industry that would, and still does define the great state of Florida.

Ponce and his brothers are the mascottes if you will for the upcoming great Florida cattle drive being held Dec 2022. I will share more information. On this great event as time goes on.

Looks like the extra day light is doing the ranch some good. Spring cleaning hit the hen house today as all the girls now have new bedding in their nesting boxes and a clean floor. We are also preparing for some possible new additions to the coop. With 3 days left on the incubator, I can definitely say that waiting on chicks is just as exciting as waiting on kids.
