Good morning!
We want to take a moment to apologize for our absence. Turns out, raising a little takes a lot more work than I ever imagined. ☕☕☕😳😂 Don't get me wrong- I wouldn't change it for the world! Sadly, though, it has meant putting our little farm stand on hold more than once.
Unfortunately, we had to take down this years crop earlier than planned. The last of our tomatoes are out at the stand and going by the day. If there are any left by the time you swing by, feel free to just collect them, on the house. We hate to see them go to waste!

Back when Ben and Mary first started dating, dinner and drinks at their local favorite, Flaherty’s (or more affectionately known as Flags) was a weekly occurrence. They ate and drank, vividly daydreaming about the day they would own a home together and all the exciting things they could do:
Build furniture, run a PB&J Sandwich Make & Drop event for the poor, host monthly art events for troubled and struggling youth, run a blacksmithing business, host annual summer music festivals featuring neighborhood-local bands and artists of all ages and styles, host annual Fall Shakespeare events... run a homestead that could feed their family even if the grocery stores all shut down.
While each of these goals held a special place in their hearts, none brought quite as hot a flame as the idea of becoming a part of Nature’s Circuit... which is to say- be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. They knew that by caring for the land and growing their food, they would be able to support the earth while also supporting their family. What more could one ask for than all the food you need, clean water to drink and fresh air to breathe?
So, in the summer of 2018 they bought a house, transported their miniature garden all the way from Macedon to Webster and began their journey as home owners and small scale homesteaders. The next year, they more than tripled their garden- and what an adventure that was being pregnant! This year, with the pandemic freshly upon them, Ben and Mary decided to take the big leap: They would build their road-side farm stand... and they would open it, too.
Beautiful infant in tow, they set out to find companies that shared their values and purchased organic seeds and soil to begin their mission. Their kitchen, overflowing with seedlings for several months, looked like a scene from Jumanji (the original, please & thank you!). By the time New York decided to stay warm, they were playing hop scotch to get from the refrigerator to the stove and back again... but it was well worth it.
As I write this- in third person, at that- I can’t help but smile. My dear ol’ da always taught me to dream big and chase every dream I had, no matter how crazy it sounded. Today, as I carried plants up to our stand and listened to my sweet baby babble excitedly at the sight of each one of them, I felt an overwhelming sense of belonging. For years I have chased dreams, but only now and I finally living them.
We hope, from the bottom of our hearts, that you discover comfort in every slice of bread, energy in every bite of fresh picked blues, satisfaction in every juicy tomato, inspiration in every story we share and joy... in everything.
Thank you for taking the time to support Basil’s Farm Stand.
