Here’s something new to me that’s so cool: the BirdCast forecast! The BirdCast forecasts migrating birds, a phenomenon we know about but see only in the smallest bits and pieces. Did you know there were almost 42 million birds migrating early Saturday morning!?!?!?!

The apples are picked, the c***r’s been bottled, the donut machine got a run through . . . I think we’re ready!

First day open for the season is this Saturday, September 12 and we’ll be open Saturdays and Sundays, 10-6, through the end of October, weather permitting.

It’s totally the year of apples at the Minnesota State Fair, isn’t it!?! We have apple fries made from apples grown by our friends at Fireside Orchard & Gardens, we have the apple donut grinder made from apples grown by our friends at Pleasant Valley Orchard & Cidery, we have the apple-growing contest, the ever present fair favorite frozen c***r from Pine Tree Apple Orchard, and we have more hard c***r at the fair than ever before, including our own Cherry Rhubarb and Minnesota Mule at the Ball Park Cafe at the Minnesota State Fair. Apples are definitely getting their due at the state fair this year and we love it!

It was a beautiful morning for picking apples. We’ve already got Zestar, Wealthy, Pristine, SweeTango, and St Edmund’s in the cooler — Ginger Gold too, which we’ve never picked this early. Pinning the blame for that one on a hot summer.

Also, we’re still looking for help with weekly deliveries to the cities on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursday. Pass it on if you know of anyone!

The dakotacountyfair was a big success for the kids this year with Champion and Reserve Champion awards in the Market Ducks category!

The poultry princess took a new approach to raising the ducks this year. When we got to the fair, there was absolutely no expectation of doing well in this category since so many of the other ducks looked big and beautiful. But the judge was decisive and gave the kids the top four places in the category, so Audrey is once again taking poultry to the mnstatefair!

I can’t say enough good things about the experiences of kids raising animals and exhibiting them at the fair. I’m so grateful these opportunities exist through 4-H and am still so grateful to be raising these kids on a farm.
