Gitcher eggs for Easter at the farm stand and stock up on jam and maple syrup while you’re there too.

Need some cider? DM me and I’ll grab some for you. Perennial is particularly good with Easter brunch!

It’s time to prune your fruit trees!

If you need a hand, I’m happy to stop by for an estimate and am also happy to take some extra time to teach you how to do it yourself. Text or call 651-252-4337 or email [email protected].

Working with/around the weather, as usual. Today, working on ice cider.

Despite what the captions say, I’m making ice cider.

Apples in winter? Yes!!!!!

Apples are a great storage crop, and some even have a reputation as *tasting better after time in storage.* Wild, huh?

Sunday was the first of four Winter CSA deliveries and included Northwestern Greening, Calville Blanc, SnowSweet, Frostbite, and an unknown/unnamed variety we have here. Subscribers also got fresh cider, apple chips, apricot jam, apple pie or apple crisp, and a four-pack of Scrumpy Original.

We’re not just providing moral resistance but actionable resistance too. Much gratitude to those of you looking out for your neighbors and for bearing witness. ♥️💪🏻🎥

If you want to help but haven’t figured out how yet, there’s Stephanie March’s to benefit restaurants, many of which employ a sizable contingent of employees being targeted by ICE. You can also look to who has done an outstanding job compiling ways to help and raising money herself.

We’ve arranged a few extra pick-up spots for our Winter CSA (apples! fresh cider! pie! apple chips!) that starts February 8. In St Paul we’ve got the_wine_thief and dogwoodcoffee on University; in Minneapolis we’ve got dogwoodcoffee on East Lake and NE and france44cheese; in New Brighton we’ve got the Well Nourished Farm Stand; and in Crystal we’ve got winethiefalejail_crystal. And, of course, orchard pickup is an option too for the far south metro folks. Questions? Happy to help!

It’s difficult for me to ask for your attention when there are so many other more important and pressing matters to pay attention to. But in case that your household could use some locally-grown apples, I wanted to let you know that we’re starting our winter CSA with the first delivery this Sunday, February 8 and then three more deliveries every other week.

The CSA includes a half peck of apples; a half gallon of fresh cider; jam, jelly, or apple butter; a frozen pie or crisp (gf), and a family-sized bag of apple chips. This year’s harvest was excellent and so I set aside a good number of apples for the winter including Keepsake, Prairie Spy, and GoldRush.

If our deliveries work for you, we’d love to have you. Sign up at https://sweetlandorchard.com

Two weeks ago, we held our annual Wassail at the orchard to focus our intention and care toward the upcoming year of apple tree tending. MANY thanks to Guerilla Haiku Movement for leading our ritual and supporting it with haiku.

Among the reconnecting — because most of the people who come to wassail have made it an annual practice — we talked about the difficulty of the times and how we wanted to take action but didn’t know which actions we could take. It turns out that the oppressive tactics of ICE and the authoritarian regime are so inhumane, the simple acts of caring for the people you know and standing up for your neighborhood are meaningful acts of resistance. 💪♥️ ❄️

Wassailing is today! Come by at 3:00 for the toast bar and hot cider with the orchard trek and song scheduled for 4:30. We *may* have Morris dancers at 4:00.

I also invite you to spend some time in the orchard for peace and reflection, anytime before or after we venture out.

WARNING: our parking lot is as slick as snot, so BE CAREFUL. You can park in the lot or out on the well-maintained gravel road.

We’ll have apples, cider, hard cider, pommeau, and apple chips for sale today too.
