The young'ens have started laying - sort of! At least one of the 25 week old chicks has started laying. At the far right - her first egg (it is tiny - sometimes called a fairy egg!). Second from the right is her second egg which would grade as "small" - next to a large and extra large egg for reference.

Eggs not ready for sale yet. These eggs will come from organically raised chickens (no medicated feed, no antibiotics) that eat only organic feed or natural stuff while free ranging.

With fall like weather upon us, flower nectar flow drops off. We feed the bees 2:1 sugar water from now until the first hard frost. The bees will feed on the sugar water instead of tapping in to their stored honey- ensuring they’ll have plenty of honey to survive the winter. The video is from a few hours after the feeder is set up.

We left at least 75 lbs of honey in each of our hives to sustain the colonies through winter. Between now and the first hard frost, the Queen will raise “winter bees” that are slightly larger and have more fat that the regular worker bees. These bees can live through winter until the Queen starts laying eggs again.
The last, most vital source of nectar is goldenrod.

I may need a new hobby!
Still bottling and labeling our labor day honey harvest!

We have 3 colors from Left to right in second pic:

White (Floral fragrance, sweet, slight less thick than the others);

Extra Light Amber: Very limited supplies - thicker, not as sweet, loaded with tree pollen - thought to be beneficial to allergy sufferers

Light Amber - From our Labor Day weekend harvest. Thicker and richer, very sweet. The richer flavor will hold up well to tea, cooking and baking - absolutely delicious.

Any single bottle ships for $6.75. $8 - 8 oz; $15- 1Lb; $25-2Lb. DM me or email: [email protected]

This is after the feeding frenzy begins - 10:30 a.m.
This could be dangerous - as bees can carry a mite that can kill off hives (colony collapse disorder). Fortunately - few live pretty remotely - so the risk is minimal.

Today is frame cleaning day. We put the frames from last week's harvest near the hives. We put them out early, before the bees start foraging in the morning. This is 7 a.m.

Thanks for watching - feel free to ask any bee questions.
