We are officially on countdown for goat babies!
(Yes, I’m still sick, but I do feel a little better today.)
Despite being sick, I had to get this pen into gear! I may not load up kids with all sorts of things besides dipping their cords in iodine, BUT I absolutely believe in starting them off in a clean pen. In my opinion, that’s very crucial for keeping them healthy and doing well.
So what does that entail, you ask
1. I first start by getting all the old p**p, hay, p*e, etc. out.
2. What I can’t get (because it’s usually a lot) gets sprayed with the digester pictured below it helps break down waste faster and should take out odors.
3. Then I spray basically everything—walls and floors—with Synbiont (also pictured below). I do this a few days after the digester.
4. As long as I can wait (a few days prior to putting goats in), I put down a good layer of Stalosan F. It’s a GREAT disinfectant for multiple things, and it especially helps me because it works on dirt!
5. After that, I wet the pelletized bedding down and throw a thin layer over everything.
While the goats are in the pen, I’ll use barn lime/digester as needed. Of course, I scrape out daily, especially around hay, etc.
In the last pics, you can see my booties! I wear these things everywhere 😂they’re especially good for kidding pens since I can take them off and put on new ones. Plus, they keep dirt out of my Crocs 🤣🤣
And that’s my basic routine for getting my kidding daycare ready! Finally, some pics of the daycare I don’t think I ever showed it before (oops).
There’s a mini trampoline, seesaw, hidey house, hanging ball they can fight, a scratching post, elevated dog bed, a hay rack that holds a bale, and their feeder trough which is amazing!!!
So hopefully, the next pictures are babies in here bouncing and playing with their mommas ❣️🫶🏻🤩
