This year at KUNZ’S TREE FARM, things are going to feel a little different.
The shop may seem a little quieter and a little emptier, and there is a sadness that seems to have blown through the leaves and settled among the branches of the tree farm this year. Our family is mourning the sudden loss of our matriarch, LUCILLE, the incredible woman who was truly the heart and life force behind both our tree farm and our Christmas shop.
For so many of you, she was a familiar face of KUNZ’S. She greeted customers with that warm, genuine hello and a smile that came so naturally to her. She loved talking with people, helping in the shop, watching families return year after year, and being part of the Christmas traditions that have grown here over generations.
To our family, she was our rock, the one who held us together, encouraged us, supported us and somehow always kept everything moving forward. Her passing was sudden, and the hole she has left in our lives is impossible to put into words. As this season approaches, there were many moments when we truly did not know whether we could do this without her. Not simply because of everything she did to help keep this business going, but because the thought of Christmas at KUNZ’S without her feels almost unbearable.
But we also know exactly what she would tell us.
Keep going.
And so, in her honor, we will.
We will sell the trees. We will make and sell the wreaths. We will fill the shop with ornaments, Christmas treasures and all of the things that have become part of the KUNZ’S tradition. We will welcome back the families who have made us part of their Christmas traditions year after year, and we will do our very best to carry on the family tradition she worked so hard to help build. We hope, more than anything, to make her proud.
Webster has always been more than simply the place where our business is located. It is our home. The neighbors, families and loyal patrons who have supported us through all these years have become part of our story, and we are incredibly grateful for every person who has walked down our lane, chosen a tree, picked out a wreath, walked through our shop or made KUNZ’S part of their family’s holiday tradition. Your support has helped this little family farm grow alongside the community we love.
This season will be harder. There will undoubtedly be tears mixed in with the Christmas music and memories tucked into nearly every corner. When you visit us and notice that familiar face is missing from behind the counter, we hope you will remember LUCILLE with us—the beautiful, positive, hardworking woman who loved this place, loved the people who came through its doors and, most of all, loved her family.
KUNZ’S TREE FARM will never quite be the same without her. But because of her, it will continue. ❤️
