🦷🐴 Equine Dental Day at Hidden Way Farms! 🐴🦷
Today we welcomed our equine dentist, Charlie Chandler, to Hidden Way Farms, and it was a great reminder of just how important routine dental care is for our horses.
Unlike humans, horses’ teeth continually erupt throughout their lives. Over time, sharp points, uneven wear, hooks, and other dental issues can develop, causing discomfort and affecting their overall health and performance.
Some signs your horse may need dental attention include:
• Difficulty chewing or dropping feed
• Weight loss or poor body condition
• Head tossing or resistance under saddle
• Bad breath
• Excessive salivation
• Quidding (dropping partially chewed hay)
• Changes in behavior or attitude
Regular dental exams and floating help ensure horses can properly chew and digest their feed, maintain a healthy weight, and stay comfortable while working. Dental discomfort often goes unnoticed because horses are masters at hiding pain.
At Hidden Way Farms, we believe preventative care is one of the most important investments you can make in your horse’s health. Just like routine vaccinations, farrier visits, and wellness exams, dental care should be part of every horse’s yearly health plan.
A huge thank you to our equine dental professional for helping keep our horses happy, healthy, and comfortable!
