This is the time of year when I feel like I’m trying to help keep every living thing alive. 🤪 It’s when something or someone is constantly needing to be fed, bathed, groomed or entertained, all while melting in the Mississippi heat and humidity, battling horseflies, deer flies, mosquitoes, ticks, snakes, and stinging insects.
Already this morning, I’ve refilled hummingbird feeders, bird feeders, fed the dogs, and Lee has fed our bottle calf baby, the feral cats (that have baby kittens almost ready for real food), and the chickens. It was hot by 9:00 am, and I’ve already gotten bitten by a deer fly. The past two weeks of rain and storms have almost destroyed my beautiful potted plants so I’ve been working on trying to save those, and the yard had become a jungle. Thankfully, Lee and Chelsea both got mowing and bush hogging done on Friday before the bottom fell out again. Unfortunately, It looks like I may just have to replace some of my flowers with new ones. Through all the sweat and exhaustion though, I still count it a blessing to be able to care for God’s (Yahweh’s) creations and that he has honored me with the tasks I have been given. Oh, and the sun is shining today!
The grandkids and adult kids are all out of school for the summer so there will at least be some fun days spent with them in the middle of all the work that this season brings. Those are the moments we look the most forward to.
So if you get tired of all the mowing, hay cutting and baling, feeding and watering of all the hungry humans, creatures, and plants, just remember you have been gifted with caring for so many blessings in your life and be thankful. Also, don’t forget to make time for a little fun in the middle of the chaos.
