Something about a nice fall feeling morning feeding and the bunk is full of bull calves eating well. Next years herd bulls are coming along good.

After the wettest September on record, we finally had a chance to chop earlier this week. Still muddy, still got stuck a couple times, and it's later than we wanted to do it, but the chopping is done.

Seeing our genetics from pasture to plate is one of the most rewarding things of raising cattle. 🥩 These are pictures of steers we have raised- from selecting the matings to harvest. We are very pleased, as they are proof Limousin genetics can excel both on yield and quality grade. You can have a trim carcass and well marbled steaks in the same calf. 😋 Some details below:

1st 3 images:
Purebred Limousin Steer
Sire: Anchor B Kingsman
Out of a 1st calf heifer
948 lb hot carcass weight

Last 2 images:
75% Limousin Steer

Pregged cows and weaned calves last week, and we were thrilled to have a 100% conception rate on our spring cows! What a blessing, we will have a busy January/February again! Heifers also came in at 90%, with the couple open heifers being potentially just too short bred to detect. Heifers and cows combined were over 97% conception!

Thanks to Caleb, Dakota, and Rose for helping us get it all done!

We are really amped about this weaned calf crop- several stout reds and blacks out of top sires. Stay tuned for more pictures as we register and select next spring's sale offering.

1, 2, skip a few...counting a group of pairs after we moved them to a more shaded pasture to help them beat the heat this week.

Getting started in farming means clearing a lot of hurdles — land, equipment, inputs, and the weather don't make it easy.
But sometimes opportunity doesn't wait. You have to be ready to move when it comes.
One Pennsylvania family did just that — pulling up stakes, crossing time zones, and building something new with a value-added approach to beef production.
John Torpy has this week's Cover Story.
