It’s been quite an eventful past two days for us. We lost power at 8am on Sunday morning and it was finally back on at 5pm Monday evening. With the winter storm forecasted, Jason (mostly Jason) and I worked hard all week prior to make sure the outside animals would be ok. Hay. Heated water tanks. Ways to keep hoses UN-frozen so we could keep everyone outside hydrated. Heated shelter for the chickens and ducks. Wind break/shelter for the cows/horses/sheep/llamas. But when power is lost, the plans and preparations all come crashing down on us. Despite no power…thank God for our wood burning stove. Us humans, 2 dogs, and 3 cats were able to hunker down in the living room and stayed very comfortable. Thank God for 2 strong men in this family who were wiling to get out on Sunday afternoon to chop more wood for the fire to get us through. Thank God for my hamburger meat and rotel that I canned this summer to be able to make chili Sunday evening over that fire. A warm meal did us good. Thank God for a propane powered hot water tank….we could still shower. Thank God for strong, healthy, outside animals that can endure the crazy wind, snow, ice, and low temps, and still thrive. They are so amazing…it just baffles me how strong and resilient they are. Thank God that Jason (and I) are able to get outside and break ice in the water troughs due to the heaters not functioning without electricity. Thank God for the hose plan…we didn’t have to battle one frozen hose. Which is HUGE for us. After the power came on, Jason and I went out to do the evening chores and reminisced on the past two days. It wasn’t awful. It was very inconvenient due to how dependent we are on electricity. But by golly we made it through and took notes on ways to do even better next time. This is our 5th winter here and by far, our most prepared one. Thank you God, for all you’ve taught us to make this crazy…but very blessed life…work. You’ve always got our back and we love you so. 💞
