➡️ NEW ITEM ⬅️
Just put this in the farm store.
BABY farm-grown GINGER.
How cool is that! 🫚

Baby ginger has very thin skin (almost no skin), milder less spicy taste and less fibrous texture. So if you think ginger is too strong, this might work for you.

Only available for a short time!

Balloon Affair - part 1….
I got word last evening that there was going to be a hot air balloon launch…at the fairgrounds…and they invited people to go watch. Being a hot air balloon softy, we of course had to go. It wasn’t just 1 balloon, it was 2…father and son. ♥️ It was a nice day for a ride.

Here are the photos. Part 2 is the video as FB won’t allow me to put both in one post, so stay tuned.

Westen asked if before summer ended if they could do a pasture campout, we did them last summer but hadn’t yet this time. We drive the wagon out to the pasture and wake up in the open air with nature.

Sunday night was our last chance so we saddled up the hay wagon (kind of feels like moving on the Oregon Trail 😉). We used strawberry frost cover (since we have a lot and it’s big enough) to keep the dew off. And boy was it dewy that night!!!! It was a little chilly, but the views of stars when falling asleep and waking up to nature is great.

First night with all of us it was super dewy/foggy, second night with no kids (since it was already set up we went back out) it was less dewy but colder. Third night we stayed in the yard and it was a perfect night.

This is what it looks like when the farm is waking up….or some of us on the farm. The meat chickens and turkeys are at the back of the pasture and I wasn’t walking that far to capture them so nothing of them.

Got a free rain gauge at the fair, put it in back yard. Nice (needed) rain tonight….

You know what we’ll be doing Labor Day weekend. 💪🏼

One of the boxes must have gotten tossed around in transit as a good deal of the plugs were out of their holes in piles. Hopefully they recover.

We like planting in the fall MUCH better because we have more time now than in the spring, the soil (and weather) is better and warmer, and there is usually a MUCH larger window to get them in because it’s not the spring rainy season….but boy fall plugs have become way expensive. We could buy almost triple the amount of plants in bare root vs plugs. We might have to go back to planting everything in the spring. 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓

The time has come to start working on the new (or maybe I should say redo) strawberry patch for planting. Plugs are coming soon.

We weren’t planning on doing this whole section, but with the really cold and wet spring, we lost too many plants in the side that wasn’t slated for replant, so we just did it all.

This time we are orienting our rows in a different direction (N/S vs old way W/E) in hopes this way will allow for better water drainage into the yard so the strawberry feet don’t stay as wet. The mounds are a bit higher too.

It seems we like to do this work when the heat and humidity have returned vs. doing it when cool and low humidity. 🙄

Yep we have a fair view….and it’s pretty bright.

If you ever wondered how we got our name, this is how. I know it can be confusing as the city of Fairview isn’t too far away, but it has nothing to do with that.

Last day for the Lorain County Fair is today.

To any of our local peeps…
You may be interested to know that Maria’s Field of Hope sunflower field is very close to us. 🌻🌻🌻🌻

In the past you’d have to go to Avon to see it, now there is one at the Penfield Rec Park too.

We stopped out there Sunday afternoon and many flowers were getting close to peak (meaning the center head hadn’t formed yet, heads are still upwards) and some still need to open. Now is the time to go visit a sunflower field for free and grab some photos….we did.
