It was a sad day at McDowell Farms today. Mama, our special needs crossbeak chicken passed away. She is one of our very first girls here and was more like a puppy than a chicken. She lived a lovely long life, especially for a crossbeak!! This girl would get in the way of EVERYTHING because she needed to be involved. We appreciate all of our chickens, but Mama will always have a special place here.

With our lil pumpkin arriving this year, this is the first year we didn't hatch out any chicks! Dana is still able to get her fix though through others who are hatching from our eggs. Next season we will get back to hatching - for now, our chickens must live on through others 🤪 stay tuned for updates when they hatch!
