We are a mother-daughter duo excited to share stories and photos about life on our small family farm in Greene Township Iowa. I’m Kate, the great-great-granddaughter of Jacob Swartzendruber, who owned this farm over a century ago. My grandmother was raised here, my dad was raised here, and now I have the privilege of raising my family here. My son Tucker is the 6th generation to call this century
farm home. I love my farm roots and our little corner of Greene Township and I am grateful my husband Ryan and I can DIY most of the fixer upper projects around the farm ourselves. He is the handyman and I am the dreamer. Here you will find snippets of life on the farm, DIY projects, and my love for making our old farmhouse beautiful. My mom, Joni, is the other half of our mother-daughter duo. She is my biggest cheerleader and best friend and for as long as I can remember she has had a love for collecting vintage, old and found things around the farm to re-purpose and enjoy. We love to go “picking” and can spend hours at a good flea market or thrift shop. After restoring an old vintage barn In 2014, on the farm where I grew up down the road, we began hosting our own flea markets called “A Vintage Flea and Fair at the BARN.” This market quickly became popular and was one of the first vintage markets of its kind in the area. Our beautifully restored vintage barn, which was the setting for both mine and my brother’s weddings, is now used as an event venue called “The BARN at Yoder’s Farm.”
While The BARN is a perfect event venue, we have limited the venue rental due to COVID19 at this time. But, I never stop dreaming and Greene Acres Farm and Market has been a dream of mine for a very long time. Ryan and I have cleaned and restored our old shop and Joni and I are excited to open our new market here at Greene Acres Farm. We will be open on occasional weekends and special events.
