Harvest is close. You can feel it.

We caught up with our winemaker, Israel, this week, and here's what he's feeling: we're anywhere from 4 to 10 days out from picking. This one crept up on all of us — a long, good spring pushed everything onto an earlier schedule, and now it's about watching the fruit closely. Brix, pH, acid, color — he's got the tools to measure all of it. But in the end, it's tasting the fruit that tells him when it's time.

2026 is shaping up to be a short vintage — smaller volume, but Israel's expecting that to mean more concentrated, higher quality fruit. It's been a smoky year, and while it's too early to know for certain, he's not worried. Just watching, waiting, and staying ready.

The energy right now? Anticipation. Every season starts like this — a little uncertainty, a lot of excitement, and a team that's been waiting for this moment since the last harvest ended.

Most wineries pick a lane. Dugger Creek is where we decided not to.

Planted in 2009 just west of Cougar Crest, this 20-acre site sits on silt loam and cobblestone — soil that can carry Bordeaux structure and Rhône character in the same vineyard. So that’s exactly what we planted: Cab and Merlot alongside Grenache, and then further still — Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Barbera. Varieties almost nobody else in the valley is growing.

Dugger Creek isn’t trying to be tidy. It’s trying to find out what this ground is actually capable of.
