Back in 1989, the farm was trying to find a way to help sustain four families: Al & Elsie, along with Peter, Faith, Anne, and their families. That’s when conversations with the Extension Service began about getting into turkey production.
But before we jumped in, we wanted to make sure we weren’t stepping on anyone’s toes. So we went to Franklin Turkeys in Gill, the local turkey farmer at the time, to talk with them about it. As it turned out, they had decided the previous year would be their last year raising turkeys. The timing couldn’t have been better.
So we started with 500 turkeys in 1989. Today, we raise between 5,000 and 6,000 turkeys each year. And somewhere along the way, our turkeys became a Thanksgiving tradition for families all across the area. That’s something we’re pretty proud of.
