Probably the most joy I get in raising Show Animals is the friends we meet along the way!
Several years ago, we had a spot barrow that got sifted (judge said he was not good enough to be in sale) at the Ring of Success in Levelland. That evening, these two guys came up and visited about hogs. They had both already been in the b**r, and were funny as heck. Mario offered us $50 for the spot sift barrow, I still remember like yesterday him saying “I’ll win with that hog, I’m a bad ass hog feeder”. We ended up eating supper with them, and my stomach muscles hurt, I laughed so much. The next day, I sold him the spot barrow for $100.
Fast forward 5 months, Mario thinks the hog will do well at Fort Worth! Sara ends up 2nd out of 68 in middleweights. He called, I said man you did good, and he said “I told you I’m a bad ass hog feeder”!
Mario will always have fun memories in my heart, He suffered the last 8-9 years with spinal cancer, and passed away last night!
God truly blessed us that night he offered us $50, Dakota and I have many fun memories of Mario! You will be missed my friend! And P.S., Kansans DO get up earlier to start work than Texans😂😂😂
