Watching.Waiting.

I just love a good farmdog, and I especially love how mine are always patiently waiting and watching. Waiting to lend a hand, watching to keep everyone safe. A good guardian. I unquestionably put so much faith in them and value their watchfulness.

🐕🐶🐕

One of the best parts of farming is seeing how God tucked little glimpses his character into all of nature.

🌱🌸🌱

If a mere dog can be so relied upon how many million times more of a protector and guardian is our Lord? How much more faith and trust should we have in Him watching us, waiting on us caring for us? What are your thoughts?

Merry Christmas from the Farm Family!

Many years I have had baby goats being born in November and December so I didn’t get much of a holiday break. This year I decided to try and make a calendar of rest seasons. December being one of them.

🐐🐐🐐

I have enjoyed spending as much time with my kiddos as possible this week and I look forward to a new year full of a new way to look at farm life!!!

🎁🎄🎁

Do any of you plan your year around rest seasons? It’s a new thought for me!

Wednesday.
This is a day I try to take off from most of my work responsibilities and spend time with the kids or doing housework. Pre COViD we used it as a time to hang out with friends and go to church.

Well, today I have never been so glad to have a Milker/farm helper scheduled to help me and give me my day off. Because I’m trying to sleep train Cordie which means I haven’t slept much in the past 7 days. And it was all I could do to get me dressed and a cup of coffee by 7:30. With yesterday’s braids and make-up! 7:30 is usually when I’m DONE with all my chores, my breakfast eaten, showered and dressed!

If you have sleep training hints..... aka I don’t want to be a paci all night.... send a momma some hints!!!!

I have been working on two new fun projects since March, I am sure some of you have heard me talk about it but I have been stuck in a run, and not able to get it finished. ( pretty positive a newborn baby, 3 other kids, homeschooling, 75+ goats and who knows how many other creatures has absolutely NOTHING to do with it!!)

But as I was booking my plane ticket to fly to Colorado to hang with my @m5entreprenuers and @the.sister.co crew, I had an Idea!! I knew these ladies would inspire the heck out of me and I would be on fire to get stuff done when I got home. And would be so sad if I couldn’t hit the ground running, soo……
♥️✈️👩‍🌾

What if I flew @CassiaAult down to give me a creative push? We have always been quite the creative duo. I sent her a screen shot of a plane ticket. To which she replies “are you serious????” I think this picture indicates that I was!

This is Malbec. Born in the year of the wine names 5 years ago. Making a half gallon of milk a day at 21 inches tall.
🐐🥰🐐

With new babies being born and kept and COVID reducing sales a few of my girls need to be re-homed to places where they can make sweet nutritious milk for other families. Malbec went to her new forever home today!
🐐🥛🐐

She’s five years old and I helped her be born, raised her milked her every day for most of four years and sat beside her as she delivered her first set of babies that where twins and two sets of triplets after that. That much time with an animal and you get attached! But oh how good it feels to know that I gave her a good start and that she will be pampered beyond measure and loved on by her new families four kiddos for her next five + years.
🥰🥰🥰
This is one reason I farm. And I love it. This is Malbec. Born in the year of the wine names 5 years ago.

Sourdough English Muffins
Recipe courtesy of @leavenly_
🍞 🥯 🥖

Sourdough and I have had a long relationship but never have I attempted English Muffins until this March, when COVID shortages reared it’s ugly head. Bread could not be bought but my larder was stocked with leaven ( sourdough starter) and flours. All was good.
Until my oven broke.
😔 😞😞
So I started searching for breads I could make on a stove top. And lo and behold this recipe pops up in my feed! It’s amazing and so easy! They are Devine on day one and can be made in bulk and stored and heated for a week full of breakfasts. Toasted with jam or beside sausage and gravey, and if by any miracle you have some left at the end of the week I turn them into a Sunday breakfast casserole.
😋 😋 😋
If your looking for recipes visit @leavenly_ and if you want to start the sourdough journey on your own my sweet friend Ashely @careandvfarms has my sourdough granddaughter that she ships out all over the country! And it’s yummy! ( p.s they also grow almonds so make sure and snag some of those while your at it!)

I mean...
Those ears!
Those eyes!
🐐💗🐐

This year I’m not supposed to keep any boys.... you really only need one for every 20 (or more) ladies. And I have about 8 boys in the bachelor pad..
😬😬😬
But he’s just so darn gorgeous that I broke my rule and named him, this years theme is veggies, and the kids chose Onion because he’s white!
🧅🐐🧅
Usually naming a goat is like you just went ahead and tucked them inside your heart. So.... we don’t often name goats that we don’t plan to keep.... but.....needless to say this little guy is getting lots of love.... and if you hear of any lady goat Harems that need a gorgeous man let me know..... until then he’s gonna get lots of love from me and the farm kids!

Cooper.
I can’t believe he just turned three.

🐐 🐕. 🐑

He is our head herding dog here and 2nd in command for farm security. If you are an unwelcome human you better watch your back, but if you’re a new baby goat or sheep, you will get the best care available.

🐕 🚧💥

He is my right hand man, catching baby pigs, herding goats and sheep, sorting pigs, or wrangling cattle. If you watch my stories keep an eye out and you will ALWAYS see him lurking in the back ground watching and ready to lend a hand. Thank you so much @emeraldacresfarm for entrusting me with the brilliant guy. tomorrow I will share some working videos of him as a puppy in my stories.

My goat journey started just like this 33 years ago.
A girl a baby goat and a bottle.

👩🏻‍🌾 🐐 🍼

My grandmother grew up on ranches and back in the day all good ranches, in addition to their cattle, horse, sheep or goat businesses animals, always keep a dairy cow or goats, a few pigs small herd of hardy Spanish goats for the family’s food. When I was two one of the momma Spanish goats disappeared leaving a little baby goat motherless. My grandmother knew just who would want it, and feed it. Her first grandchild. Me.

🐐💗 🐐

She brought her down for me and “Cookie” instantly kicked off my love for goats. I love to tease my mom @reneebradford64 and twll her my goat addiction is all her fault for letting a 2 year old have a goat! But really I should be thanking her for starting me off on one of the best adventure in my life.

Eggs: Who knew these little miracle orbs would soon become so extra precious? ( check the last paragraph if you're having a hard time finding eggs)
🥚🥚🥚

These are duck eggs. Here on the farm we keep a hen flock that roams the farm on clean-up duty, but they are Wiley and Sneaky and we have to go find their nests. The ducks stay in a pretty little yard inside the garden, complete with pond and very cooperatively lay their eggs inside the enclosure!
🦆🦆🦆

My sweet friend Kristi and I plan to start partnering and feeding a few special families here in the Rio Grande Valley in May. We will provide fresh food from our farms, pork, lamb, beef, eggs, and veggies. If we can get it the licensing figured out milk and cheeses too! (let us know if you want to apply to be one of those families!)
🐖🥚🐄

We have a whole new set of hens that have begun laying and we have some eggs to share. If you interested in being a weekly customer let me know! In order to comply with distancing, pay online and we leave them by the garden gate in an ice chest with your name on them. (some veggies available too) In theses crazy days it's good to know your food has only been touched by one set of hands.

Do you know this guy has taken over the morning milking for me?

Our family operates as a team. We all enjoy living on a farm, and have had so many discussions on how as a family we work as a team. The kids realize that to keep our lifestyle we all have to pitch in.

In the mornings we all go to the barn together. We work, play music, and enjoy each other. We devide up chores according to each persons ability so we can get it all done!

This quarter Crawford chose miking the 12 does with the machine. He does an amazing job and this is the rich nutrient dense milk is what we use for our cheeses and our soaps.

04/11/2020

Seeds sprouting always give me new hope of wonderful things to come, as Easter should, but Easter so early gets sidetracked.

What does your Easter weekend usually look like for you?

Is yours a bit like mine? Full of family, delicious food, clean new clothes possibly in refreshing pastel colors, lots of family and Church.

Friday and Saturday are full of egg hunts with freinds, easter parties, and hopefully an easter meal with Jakes parents, I really love when we have a Seder meal.

Sunday is s flurry of feed the aimals, try and get clean, scarr down a breakfast, maybe hunt eggs and hopefully get to church on time. Our church does a wonderful Job of a resurrection story, baptisms and an easter meal.

Though we try mightily and do a decent job of weaving the story of Gods git to us and Jesus's sacrifice into our activities, the weekend rushes by so fast. It is so full it leaves little time for reflection and time with GOD and our children, especially as a momma with little children.

So this easter at home is just maybe what the world really needed. Let's bask in Gods love as our worldy traditions are stripped away and we can focus on what Easter really is-The fulfillment of Gods promise to save us, the weaving of the Gospel story, and in a time when it seems like alot of hope is lost he in his great mercy he has given us the ultimate hope. Everlasting life with him.

John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her. "I am the resurrection and the life. Whosoever believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
