Our LAST market this Saturday! We have made the difficult decision to bid the market farewell. It has been a struggle to stay afloat the past couple of years due to family health challenges which has resulted in me doing more than I can handle alone. It’s taken more of a toll mentally, physically and emotionally than originally anticipated and a change was needed. We have enjoyed being part of the Matthews Community Farmers Market over the past 7 years and feel extremely blessed to have had relationships and made friendships with others. God is leading me on a path to serve the community in a smaller capacity and I pray I can handle it independently with ease. We still plan to come visit the market to shop and share flowers with others and will greatly miss seeing everyone each Saturday to share stories, laugh and support one another. This decision has come after months of discussions, alterations, possible changes, etc. to make it work and ease my workload, but I just don’t see any way I can continue with doing it alone. I am faithful knowing God has a plan and we look forward to what the future has for us and our little Single Acre. Thank you to all who have supported us over the past 7 years and we hope you join us on our next path!

I had a twin at the market today. I wore my blue shirt too! Of course, however, I looked nowhere as pretty!

Breakfast! I don’t feel anything is more satisfying than growing your own food! God has provided the plants to nourish our bodies and the seeds for us to see His amazing creation in action! I haven’t grown cantaloupe in a few years and I was reminded this season just how enjoyable it is to see them growing, to smell the vine ripened sweetness and to enjoy the chemical free, truly natural flavor these amazing fruits provide. It’s such a blessing to able to do this!

The importance of growing food! Tonight’s dinner consists of aubergine (eggplant), courgette (squash), tomatoes, peppers (sweet bell, hot banana and the teeny tiniest jalapeño) basil, and garlic sautéed in olive oil, tossed with pasta, salt and pepper. The side salad of cucumbers, basil and marigold petals. It’s SO much better (healthier and cheaper!) to walk your garden and harvest your dinner than it is to open the the fridge and hope your food is fresh enough for dinner! If you’d like to learn how to grow fresh seasonal food, DM me! We have an opening for our workshare (it will only run a few weeks this year) this season or request to be on the list for next season which runs from late spring until early/mid September!

We always enjoy observing the beautiful combinations people make when they come out to pick produce and flowers! Some people come just for the produce and buy just enough to try it, others pick enough for multiple meals throughout the week and a bouquet to adorn the table and others never even look at the produce, they come only for flowers. They slowly walk to find the flowers that are perfect for them to make a bouquet. I love seeing the colors, the smiles and the sheer pride that shines when people look at the beautiful creation they made! It makes me smile the whole day!

So, we’re hearing about this parasite called cyclospora spreading throughout several states, NC included, with the likely source being raw fruits & vegetables. US. Current recommendations (especially in states with rising case numbers) are to avoid raw veggies purchased from grocery stores and any bagged salads (although that advice may change).

You have options to AVOID this! 1. Grow your own naturally, organically grown produce at home! 2. Join a TRUSTED community garden to grow your food! 3. Shop at a TRUSTED farmers market! 4. (My favorite!) reserve an available spot to come here and pick your own produce and herbs! You support a small family farm that grows naturally, you receive local food without worrying about pesticides, you see where the food is grown and choose what you pick (unlike a csa that chooses for you), you get to spend time in the fresh air, you can enjoy the experience of being a farmer, even if just for an hour, you support your community and lessen the carbon footprint because food isn’t shipped in, you get the absolutely freshest food possible because YOU JUST PICKED IT!
