As we wrap up our first harvest of the season and I see others doing the same, I am reminded of why we started this years ago - quite simply, to know where our food comes from. Knowing our birds have lived a life full of fresh air, sunshine, and a good diet is empowering and the hard work put in usually comes out in the quality and flavor. It's never easy, but to know their story allows us to appreciate the food on our table much more. Just because they are destined for supper doesn't mean they shouldn't have any contact or be given any respect and taking their life doesn't make you a villain; it makes you stronger, prouder, and most of all, more grateful.
