Unfortunately, we will not be able to open the pumpkin stand this year. 😔

This is due mostly because of insects that ate almost all of the squash and pumpkin leaves, but also because of challenging field conditions.

We are looking into ways to naturally repair the soil and have a couple in the works. We also might take a break next year so the insects disburse elsewhere.

So sorry to disappoint but we will keep you posted!

While we have been gardening for almost 20 years, this is only our 3rd year planting in our fields. We definitely know how to grow pumpkins and squash though!

Those pesky w**ds end up getting out of control by harvest time. Each year we have tried to make improvements in our methods with limited equipment & time. We see what works and what doesn't and make adjustments where we can for the following year.

Lambs quarter is w**d that is in excess by us and we won't use any chemicals to combat them. Free range chickens were a thought but they would eat all of the plants instead of just the w**ds & with all of the hawks and owls as predators, the chickens probably wouldn't last long. To help control the lambs quarter naturally, we are spacing out our pumpkin and squash seeds so farm equipment can go between the rows for part of the season to keep up with the w**ds. That way we won't have to pull them by hand as much. The hope is with adding mushroom compost & making it easier to keep up on the w**ds better that we can continue to offer you a wide variety of squash come Fall!

Now, if we could just get a decent stretch of weather to finish planting, that'd be helpful. Hopefully that is coming this week yet!

The Sasquash stand is busting at the seams! We've got gourds galore, squash for days and pumpkins up the w***o!!

We worked hard today and harvested everything from the pumpkin patch. There are about a bazillion to choose from - all sorts of sizes, shapes and colors. All pumpkins are $8 each, except for our new wagon of jumbo sized pumpkins, that we call Sasquash Pumpkins, which are $20 each. Come out and find your perfect decor or carving pumpkins!!

Happy October!! Even though it sure doesn't feel like it today, pumpkin season is offically here.

We've got the stand restocked for you with squash! There is also now an extra trailer with more pumpkins for you to choose from too (and many more in the field that we'll be harvesting soon).

While later than most years due to the dry conditions, this time of the season is always exciting. We get to lift the giant squash leaves and find what's growing underneath. Many times it's amazing how large the squash are already! That rain last week helped so much!!

It's always humbling to stand back, looking at the field and think 'we grew all of that, we did that!'.

Harvesting time is coming soon & we will keep you posted when we have the roadside stand stocked.
