Witte's Vegetable Market, LLC - West Bend

Witte's Vegetable Market, LLC - West Bend Witte's Vegetable Market, LLC is a locally owned and operated family farm in West Bend, WI. The farm store is open from June through December.

Witte's Vegetable Market LLC is an IPM Vegetable farm focused on providing West Bend, Jackson, and our surrounding communities with the best and freshest vegetables and fruits. We have a farm store open 7 days a week where 90% of all items are grown on our farm. We also attend the West Bend Farmers Market on Saturday mornings where we sell 100% of what we grow. The farm was started by Dad and Mom

in 1992 with the purchase of 56 acres. Since that time we have acquired more land, built a few more buildings, and rebuilt the original building after a fire 4 years ago. We currently farm about 50 acres of vegetables with another 10 acres left for cover crops to rotate and maintain soil health. Every year we start with asparagus and end with items such as brussel sprouts, winter squash, beets, potatoes, and carrots. The main crop season for us is usually from the end of July through the end of September. During that time you will find Pickles, Sweet Corn, Musk Melon, Watermelon, Tomatoes, Peppers, and about 20 other different vegetables.

June 24th- playing in the mud

Well, here is your friendly reminder that even though it's raining that we are open from 12 to 5 today. Now while everyone else has been working indoors I decided to go and play in the mud this morning. "Why" might you ask. Well, it's time for baby new potatoes. Today we will have red and gold.

June 22nd- just as surprised as you

Well, it has been an extremely busy day, hence the 3 o'clock post. We have a little bit of everything right now with no large quantities of anything. Some items will come and go on a day to day basis depending with how sales are on any given day. Also the weather has been awfully chilly over night which has lead to the slow down of most vegetables ripening. However, one suprise is a late push of big berries. We don't have a lot but my dad has never been able to let something go to waste. So we probably have 40 quarts of berries that were just picked. Open Mon-Fri: 12pm-5pm

June 20th- not open but still working

Just a quick reminder that we are not open today or tomorrow. Stand hours are 12 to 5 Monday through Friday until July 6th when we open full time for the season. However, that doesn't mean we still aren't all out working. Mom, Dad, and Tiffany are all up at the market this morning. Which leaves myself at the the farm working with Gabe. So far we got the late musk melon field planted, we are working on tying some cauliflower, and I will be cultivating and sidedressing the rest of the day.

June 17th- over equipped

Let's face it their is no better time in history to be farming than now. The equipment, if you have the means, at our disposal makes farming easier and faster than ever. However, just because most of us are over equipped for the tasks we are accomplishing doesn't mean every facet of farming is that way. Last season, my retired guys and I, hand harvested and shucked all of our popcorn and hung it to dry over winter. Little by little this spring, we have been chipping away at cleaning and packaging it. So today we made another good dent in the pile and since it's a rain day we made a little video.

June 16th- A meal for everyone

Well, the 2026 strawberry season is officially over. Only 7 days this season. Thank you to everyone who came out and bought berries and supported us through this difficult season. We started a little rough last Wednesday, with many new young pickers who learned quickly and finished out the season much stronger than they started. We thank them for the early hours and sticking it out with a less than ideal season. While we do still have berries in the field, every year we end 1 or 2 picks short so our pickers and their families can come and pick as a thank you for the work they put in.

Now I wanted to address something from last week. Why would I advertise for other farms? It came as a shock and also applauded by many people. First and foremost I love our customers and wanted to make sure they would get berries this season. We were down over 50% from a normal season. Then their is a saying that took me maturing and running the farm to adopt "the table is big enough for everyone to eat." I remember when I was younger, late 20's, and wanted to grow and grow, get bigger, and have all the customers buying from me. Then I matured real quick, a wife and kids will do that in a hurry, and thought that is nice and all but what are you willing to give up to do it. Truthfully I'm not willing to sacrifice the necessary time to run our 40 acres of vegetables plus grow more berries to meet the demand for pre picked berries. Those berry farms i tagged last week do a tremendous job and should be applauded for dedication and time it takes to grow 2 through 5 acres of berries plus whatever else they do. It's definitely not a passion of mine and so I am extremely thankful their are others who make it their's so people can get their berries this season. So once again kudos to The Fideler Farm Gierach Orchards Eickstedt Produce for making it through an extremely tough season and taking care of the masses. Check in on their pages to see if they are still picking.

June 16th- just a bee doing bee things

Ladies and gentlemen we are once again open at 12 today. This may very well be our last day with strawberries. However, I will let you all know tonight and put my thoughts out in a completely dedicated strawberry post. For now I am just hanging out in my early potato patch peacefully watching this bumble bee do what she does best.
