As some of you know, and I am sure many of you have guessed, (based off of my chosen farm stand decorations)- I am a bit of a history buff.
For some time now, I have been meaning to sort through a box of old photographs that document the history of our property, formerly named Malden Brook Farm. So, this past rainy Sunday, I picked out my favorites, and wanted to share them with you all.
Most of these photos are close to 100 years old, and it was very interesting to see how much our landscape truly changes over time.
Malden Brook farm was started by the Surabian family in the year 1898 after they immigrated from Armenia. They were known throughout New England for their award winning Aryshire dairy cattle, and also raised an abundant mix of market vegetables. The field where the farm stand sits today was once lined with rows of sweet corn!
The collage of photos above, in my mind, truly resembles the hard work, pride, and dedication that has always persisted on family farms across the country.
Supporting local agriculture is more important now than ever, and I cannot thank you all enough for your business and kind words.
It will take time, but my ultimate goal is to restore this property to its former glory, and hopefully my grandkids can sort through a box of old photos just like this one some day, only they will be able to put family names to faces, and continue to pass on Stones Throw Farm to future generations.
