Now that we have moved some dirt- getting asked what we are doing. Well, after a couple years of researching this- we are adding Solar Panels! The array is 350kw, and is forecast to produce just under 500,000 kWh annually. Why solar? Well- it’s not going to save the world, we are not doing it for any “carbon footprint”. We are doing it for simple economics. Technology has gotten more efficient, and the solar production curve match’s almost exactly with our usage- more in the summer, and less in the winter. At current electricity rates, this should pay for itself in around 7 years, and then it will be an annual savings. Why not put them on the roof? Well, most roofs are not engineered for the increased weight, there would be thousands of screws needed to secure them, (ie- additional holes in a roof!) and more importantly, any maintenance would require roof work, which is far more dangerous and difficult. This footprint is less than 1.5 acres. Stay tuned for more pics and updates. The goal is to have all hooked up and generating by late summer, early fall.
