I’ve been really lucky to find such close friends and colleagues in floristry. I lean on them often and my work has been better for it. I meet them for coffee to review a tricky pricing or design question or call to chat through a recipe. I freelance design for them often and seek out learning opportunities that sharpen my skills. Further- I get excited when they reach out to me for the same. I’ve learned the quickest route to burnout is going it alone. So my best advice, don’t.

I’ve invited one of those friends to the farm to host a mid season workshop that will surely give that much needed inspirational boost this time of year. Come to the farm for dinner and we’ll take a big deep breath in flowers together.

Summer Design & Dine at Bell Brook Farm

At Bell Brook Farm, West Brookfield, MA

A design intensive for industry professionals to restore and inspire as we enter the heat of the season, followed by a delicious dinner to connect with each other and enjoy the beauty that we’ll create.

Led by Semia Dunne of Flowers by Semia, this workshop will be a practice in connecting a design concept to the season, the space, and the individuality of the event. You’ll learn to work with unexpected elements and reach outside your comfort zone to create naturalistic and luxuriously abundant designs that are closely inspired by the farm that will surround us. Semia will share her approach to creating an immersive tablescape that captivates guests through color, movement and layering.

Following the workshop, we’ll dine together fireside under the summer sky. Chef Chris Ly, of Wooden Bar in Worcester, MA will cook a garden inspired wood-fired pizza dinner. Complimentary beverages provided by our hosts at Bell Brook.

Shannon Grant Shannon Grant will capture each student’s individual work along with the full tablescape for portfolio use.

stopped by as we were loading up to head to RI for Emily & Dave’s wedding. The studio is undergoing a big and long awaited makeover (heating/cooling/insulation/doors) and had been filled with piles of flowers and piles of sawdust the past few weeks reminding me that progress is equal parts messy and beautiful.
