On Saturday, May 30th, Lagrees’Bees, in cooperation with the Northern Adirondack Beekeepers Association (NABA), will host a workshop on the Demaree swarm control method. This is an effective and timely way to trick your colonies into thinking they have swarmed.
This free workshop starts at 10am and will end by 1pm. Please bring a chair along with your favorite bee suit/jacket. Look 👀 for the “Bee Workshop Today” sign at 203 Beartown Road in Beekmantown.
All beekeepers welcome.

Turn up the volume, sit back, relax, and enjoy the symphony of the bees.

This is the sound that queens make when trying to locate a rival queen. We hear the sound but they only feel the vibration. This is called piping.

Amazing little creatures!

Queen bees and worker bees have the same DNA, but they develop differently because of the food they receive as larvae.
A queen is fed only royal jelly and develops in about 16 days, while a worker is fed royal jelly briefly and then pollen and honey, taking about 21 days to develop.

Royal jelly changes gene expression, allowing the queen’s reproductive organs to fully develop.

Worker bees raise a new queen when the old one dies, becomes weak, or when the colony prepares to split.
They do this because the colony depends on a queen to lay eggs and ensure survival
