A University of Rhode Island researcher has found 20 compounds in maple syrup that play an important role in our health (ScienceDaily, 30 Mar. 2011). Some of these compounds have been shown to help prevent inflammatory diseases like cancer, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s.

Other established health benefits of pure maple syrup include the calcium and potassium content – a quarter cup of maple syrup has more calcium than the same amount of milk and more potassium than a banana.
