To say the kids love it when they get a bottle calf would be an understatement. Little Daisy is being well-loved and cared for by the girls and Clover.

Surprise twins on the farm today! What a way to start calving season.

Mama is 13–14 years old, and if she’s telling us she doesn’t want to raise two, we’re going to listen.

We’ll separate one calf, get it started strong, and then sell it. Calves are bringing really good money right now, but more than anything, this is about doing right by mama and giving both calves the best chance to thrive.

So now we have a calf in the basement and Beth and Kaye named her Daisy. She drank a whole bottle of colostrum is 3 minutes flat and will be a great calf for someone.

Moved the girls this morning. Now we wait for the calves to start! 👏🏼

Do we have a million projects to do? Oh yes. Too many. We would need ten men and months to catch up on our “to-do” list. But whatever. It's gorgeous out.
Our youngest baby, Kaye, just turned eight, and the heck with it. Life is too short. Go fishing. We haven't done this since Beth was a baby, and that's a shame.

Last day of the season for poultry on pasture! Just in time, too — everything was frozen solid this morning. Two frosty mornings in a row and back-to-back nights in the low 20s have locked up all the water lines, even though we shut them off early.

There’s a slight variation in the greens, and the goldenrod has turned golden—I think fall is on its way.

Checking on sheep and loving on their guardian Bae. ❤️ We love a good guardian dog, and she's a great one. ❤️
One funny thing about Bae is she loves sheep and gives special attention to them, but flat out refuses to watch chickens. 😆 If we put her with chickens, she will get out EVERY time and sit on the porch until we get the memo. When she's with her sheep, suddenly she respects the fence.
Can't knock a girl that knows what she wants 💁🏼‍♀️💅

We just emptied one of the brooders and put over 2000 chicks on the pasture.
We are all hot, sweaty, and in need of a shower. 😄
But all is good. The birds are all happy, and of course, I forgot to take a picture when we were working, so I’ll have to take a picture tomorrow because I am not going back out there. I snapped these as I remembered. “Oh yeah, a picture would’ve been nice.”
Yesterday morning at 2:30 AM we were up and took all the ones that were on pasture to the processor. This time of year its a revolving door, in the brooder, out of the brooder, on pasture, off pasture, to the processor.

These are Beth and Kaye’s personally owned heifers. Well, except the little Hereford. She was a calf that lost her mom when she was little, and the girls had a soft spot for her, and for some reason, “Lucky” is still here.
We keep them separate from the herd so we can artificially breed them. Crossing our fingers they are all pregnant now with the girls next generation. 👏🏼
We sure like the two colors together - The Blonde Bomber just met the Red Angus for the first time (Saffron and Cabernet are their names). 👑😍🤩
