When I started haying a few years back🙂, baling twine was $20, it is now $70. Fuel was $1.75 ish, today it was $5.75, a tractor wIth loader was $27,000, now it is $67,000, I haven’t priced mowers, balers, tedders, or rakes lately but I don’t believe they have gone down. Hay was $2.50 for squares and $25 for rounds, last year it was $6 and $60. Ask my accountant, I am not getting rich doing this and it is getting harder to break even. I am not sure where the price will end up this year or if I can even afford to continue. Predictions are that fuel will be over $10 a gallon in a couple of weeks, between this, repairs, etc it is getting scary.
I like serving my usual customers and will try to continue. If I give you a day and time to pick up hay you may want to make sure you show up. Things are going to change day by day with the instability we are having in the world.
