Meet Tallie — One of Our Favorite North Dakota Entrepreneurs
Some of the best things we sell at Whiskey Barrel Meats come with a story.
Tallie’s Eggs are one of them.
Tallie’s dad, Dan Ryba, grew up around chickens—his grandparents raised them, and before his grandma Joanne passed away, she gifted him the original laying boxes from her coop, boxes that had been in use since the 1950s. When Dan’s family moved to their farm near Brocket, ND in 2014, he installed those very boxes in memory of her.
What began as a small hobby soon became something bigger—a hands-on way to teach Tallie how to work hard, take responsibility, and run a business.
They started with just 30 chickens, selling eggs to friends and neighbors. As demand grew, so did the flock. Dan obtained an egg dealer license through the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, allowing them to sell to local stores after annual inspections. The community support was overwhelming.
Today, Tallie’s Eggs has nearly 400 laying hens—and they’re barely keeping up with demand.
Tallie, now a second grader at Neil Dardis Elementary in Lakota, helps collect eggs, prepare cartons, and is learning what it means to be a business owner. She’s even formed her own LLC and is already understanding the basics of entrepreneurship.
We’re proud to carry Tallie’s farm-fresh eggs at Whiskey Barrel Meats.
This is what local food is all about: legacy, learning, and the next generation doing big things—one egg at a time. 🤍
