Well this morning was more than just patchy frost, it was a full on freeze. Irrigation hoses frozen solid. Morning watering will have to wait a couple hours today. Wow did we come close in the greenhouse, the digital high/low thermometer not in the picture said the low was 35 inside the greenhouse. Now the planting out can begin.

Last year I acquired ten F2 pepper seeds that made this evil looking (and spicy 🌶️ as all get out!!!) pepper. I isolated several blossoms on that plant and saved the seeds after trying the peppers. This tray is the F3 generation from those seeds. The phenotypes seem to be tending more towards the purple plants, we shall see this season what ends up happening. I’m hoping over the next couple of years to begin offering our seed for sale. Over several generations of selection I should be able to offer strains adapted to the local environment here in Rutland County.

The sun rises over pepper and basil plants hardening off in veggie boot camp. They’ll slowly adjust to life outside before being transplanted in a few days. Finally the sun is back. While we needed the rain it will be nice to have a few sunny days. Pepper weather is almost here!
