Oma’s Plum Cake Recipe
There are just some foods that bring you back to childhood. This cake is one of them. My Oma (grandmother) always made this cake for Rosh Hashanah and now I make it every year for my family.
Approximately 12-14 Italian Prune Plums pitted and cut into halves
1 Cup Sugar
1 Large Egg
1 1/4 Cups All Purpose Flour
Dash of Salt
1 tsp of Vanilla Sugar
½ cup of cold butter/margarine (one stick)
3 teaspoons of brown sugar
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray your pie pan with baking pam
In a large bowl, mix the sugar, egg, flour, salt, vanilla and flour. Cut the cold margarine into small pieces and add to the bowl. Use your hands to mix and fully incorporate the margarine until the dough is soft.
Spread out the dough into your prepared baking pan making sure to go slightly up the sides.
Place your plums cut side down in concentric circles on top of the dough.
Sprinkle with brown sugar
Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes until golden.
Enjoy!
