We’re getting the bees ready for winter. Before we pack them up we complete a few housekeeping actions to ensure there are no mites in the hives that will weaken them over the winter. This includes a sugar syrup mite treatment dripped between frames.

Spring weather is happening and it's looking like a great overwinter result...so far. Hives are exploding with lots of bees and bringing in early pollen (see photo). . We've checked them and added pollen patties. With luck and some vigorous swarm control we should have lots of honey. Still lots left so let me know what you need and we can arrange curbside for you. First winter storm. Bees are cozy and clustered inside their packing boxesand will remain clustered until February when queens start laying again. Some will try for a cleansing flight even in the cold and on the odd day we will find chilled bees on the snow. Honey sweetened tea is just the thing for wintry day.

We have a very limited amount of dark honey this year which we suspect is Japanese Knotwood Honey - a dark flavourful honey high in anti-oxidants.
