Golden marigolds, thrifted treasures, and playing in the spring sun🌼

This button-down was dip dyed with marigolds I harvested, using a secondhand shirt that already had a beautiful life before finding its next chapter. Thrift stores continue to be one of my favorite places to source dye pieces — the natural fibers, worn textures, and quality fabrics take color in unexpected ways.

Marigold is truly a top-tier dye plant. The scent alone can brighten a room, and the colors range from warm sunshine yellows to deep green earth tones depending on the fabric and technique. Every plant carries its own personality, and every dye bath tells a different story.

Sometimes you just need to throw on a freshly wrinkled, wind-dried shirt and remember how good simple things can feel ✨

I have many upcoming natural dye classes where you’ll get the opportunity to learn plant-based dye techniques for yourself. Every dye plant and fibers behaves differently, Folding, binding, dipping, or immersion method creates completely unique results. No two pieces are ever the same!

Come play with color, plants, fiber, and a little bit of surprise 🌿

Throwback to last February when an Osprey lost its catch mid-air-most likely being chased off by the ravens-and dropped this fish right onto my deck under my chair.

Living next to the Willamette River means moments like this happen, but aren’t common. This stretch of water supports a wide range of bird and fish species. Including this walleye, and all the wildlife that depends on them.
I’ve seen a bald Eagle with a large chinook almost crash into the side of my home and giant sturgeon surface a foot from me while paddling. And lots of sea lions.
Right now we’re in the heat of spring Chinook fishing season and I’m hoping I get another porch present! Do I need to tell the fish and game wardens? šŸ˜‚šŸŸ

A wild reminder of everything is connected together right outside our doors.🐟 šŸ¦…

Spring is one of my favorite wild harvesting seasons 🌱 Everything feels fresh and ready to be tasted.

The bitter greens are the most palatable this time of the year as well because the sun has yet to bring out the strong bitter compounds.

One plant that I always look for this time of the year is miners lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata.) It gets its name from Gold Rush miners who relied on it as a source of vitamin C to prevent scurvy-one of those plants that’s quietly supported people before and after colonization. I love it because it’s easy to identify, mild and grows in abundance across the PNW.

A gentle reminder that miners lettuce is a bioaccumulate. Be mindful of where you’re harvesting. Clean areas are best if you’re gathering in quantity.

This time of year makes me feel like a little forest rodent, just nibbling my way through spring greens.

Do you have a favorite spring wild edible? Morels included.šŸ˜‚šŸ„

Spring = fresh air + good finds + absolutely no control on Facebook Marketplace šŸ„šŸ’›

Just added this this 6-piece ceramic canister to my growing mushroom collection and I’m in love.
Just like me, it’s not perfect. And that’s kind of the point.

The company that produced this design, sold the molds to art and pottery painting studios. Many of the pieces have the name and year of the person etched on the bottom. The Sears Merry Mushroom line is also very popular collection that was commercially produced.

These pottery pieces are getting harder to find, and I’ve been wanting this one for a long time. The second I saw it, I knew it was mine.

Now if I could get my hands on one of those molds!… šŸ‘€

Tiny little daffodils!🌼

The first week of spring in Oregon was beautiful. I enjoyed the sun, rain, cold and every bit of the seasonal changes!

I love these little flowers so much that I decided to add more to my yard this year. has multiple varieties of them on sale right now because they’re almost done for the season. Honestly, some of my healthiest plants have came from this nursery. RIP to my potted lemon tree that put out fruit for 14 years!

These are just a few strands in the never ending tapestry.
