On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress took a break from writing the Articles of Confederation and passed a resolution stating that “the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white,” and that “the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
Over 100 years later, in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson marked the anniversary of that decree by officially establishing June 14 as Flag Day.

Over the years, Packing on different items have changed but so products still have the original packaging that the company started with.  Butcher paper has been used for 100 years or more in meat shops and still used today. Kool-Aid is still package in paper envelope, & your sugar, still comes in a paper bag. Can y’all think of any more items that still coming in this original packaging.

Yes, it’s been another monster weekend here at Hughes Market. I was just thinking today. I wish my Dad was still around so he could see everything going on at the Hughes Market, but I’m pretty sure he can; I can see him shaking his head now. When I was younger, there were days I thought he was going to work me in to the ground. But today I thank him every day for teaching me what it takes to run a business. Almost every day when I’m working, I can hear him telling me the right way to do something or what I used to call 'the Hughes way.' 🤣🤣 As he used to tell me, my head was as hard as a billy goat. 🤣🤣 Thank you to all our customers and friends who came out this week to do business with us.
