Long time no posting once again!

Life continues to be busy for us and we finally have an exciting update to share!
We extracted our first batch of honey this week from the "Granny Hive"!! 10 frames turned in to 49 pounds of honey! There is more honey we could extract but will leave it so the bees have honey for the winter.
"Aubee" even made the first label for the first jar that went to Granny herself 💜🐝🍯

10 Days since our last loss & tonight we said goodbye to one of our first hens... "Ruby Too" passed in my arms tonight.....

10 Days since our last loss & tonight we said goodbye to one of our first hens... "Ruby Too" passed in my arms tonight...
boy out of all the chickens we've lost the past 2 years, this was the first that Todd and I were there for... I'm thankful Aub decided she didn't want to come outside while we tried to determine what was wrong with Ruby and as we were examining her she passed while I was holding her. As I told Aubrey, I'm thankful Ruby Too was not alone and that Aub and I were not alone as Todd has another week of training.
So now Ruby Too joins all of our other chickens in Heaven.

2 days of fun in Branson for a mini vaca ended in tears for Aubee 😢 we came home tonight to find White Rooster passed sometime while we were gone.
It's unexplained losses like this that I wish there was a chicken vet so we could give our girl some answers.
The chickens have not had free roam of the property since the last chicken death so we don't believe any predator got him and there were no injury marks or blood. For a while now he hadn't been roosting at night and would just lay down in a corner in the coop
We never saw any one being mean too him but yet he just seemed separated from the roost like he was getting picked on... We just don't know... So now the 3 roosters are down to 2 and in the morning we'll have a funeral before co-op.

👋 y'all! We're still here, just been busy with school, co-ops, t-ball, dance, soccer AND our businesses. I did get to Harvest our late summer bean crop so thankfully we'll have some beans to can this year. Tomatoes are still turning red too so 🤞 crossed that the first stays away!

Just a friendly reminder to deep clean your coop!! NOT just change out the straw every so often! Today's to-do was to clean the coop AND I found chicken mites 🤦 ALL over the underneath and corners of the roosts!! There was none on top where they roost so we had no idea till I went to clean them.
So we spent all day demoing the inside, scrubbing, spraying and building new roosts. OH, AND the whole time we were demoing and scrubbing... There was a black snake hiding IN the coop in the last area to be tore apart 🤦

Same goes for hobby farm chores! Too early to eat before ya go out and too late when ya come in at dark but starving by ...

Before tonight's Bee Club meeting Todd checked the 3 hives. Aubrey got to taste some honey from "Granny Hive" and the frames in the next pictures (from our Kimes Hive) show the brood (aka babies) which is in those capped areas in the honeycomb. Last picture is a larvae that fell out and Aubrey was determined to save 💛🐝

Y'all I'm OVER these surprises at the coop when I go to get eggs!! SOOOO thankful for my gift from Nikki!! I was shaking so much I'm shocked I didn't drop it!! As you can tell I need to work on where I grab it at but let's just hope there are NO MORE!!! Where's a black snake when ya need one!?
