You have to fight for the food system you want to see.

We cannot count on politicians or the government to fix it. They talk a good game. They promise to break up the monopolies and oligopolies that control so much of our meat and crops. But year after year, the system remains largely the same.

But we have the power to change it ourselves.

We can build a fairer system for our farms. We can reconnect consumers with the people who grow their food. And we can choose to support the farms and farming practices we want to see survive for generations to come.

Buy direct. Buy local. Support the farms you want to see stay in business and the people producing food the way you believe it should be produced.

The game is rigged anyway. So instead of playing it, let’s create our own.

Beef prices are high right now, in part because the U.S. cattle herd is historically small.

President Trump says his plan to increase cheaper beef imports will help lower prices while giving our American cattle herd “space” to grow again.

As a cattle producer, I understand the goal of making beef more affordable for American families. But I struggle to understand how bringing in more beef below current market prices creates an incentive for American ranchers to expand.

Especially when we are already trying to rebuild with fewer farms, fewer acres of farmland and fewer producers than we had during previous cattle expansion cycles.

I am not against imports. But I do believe American consumers deserve transparency about where their beef comes from, especially if imports are going to play a larger role in our food supply.

We are allowing this newly established crabgrass pasture to go through two seed shattering events to help improve our stand for grazing next year.

We sourced our seed from Southeast AgriSeeds and a special thank you to their team for recommending this great management strategy.

Selling our beef directly means we get to share the story behind your food with you.

Where it was raised. How it was raised. And the people and land behind it.

And when you choose to buy directly from our farm, you become a small part of that story too.

There will be a Rural Development discussion tonight (Aug 7th) for anyone interested in the future of rural Troup County.

As data centers, the inland port and other development continue to come to our area, these discussions are focused on how we can coexist with growth while helping protect our rural communities, landowners, and natural resources from some of the potential negative impacts that can come with development.

Tonight, local geologist Don Watson and Riverkeeper Henry Jacobs will be joining the discussion to help the group explore baseline environmental testing and ongoing monitoring of our community’s land and water resources.

Other discussions include ways to keep rural land rural and ensure the people who already live, farm and own land here have a voice as our county continues to grow.

If you live or own land in Troup County, come be part of the conversation.

Tonight, Friday, from 5:30–7:00 PM
Bethel Methodist Church
1595 Webb-Bartley Road, West Point, GA 31833

Four years ago today, we shipped our first two beef orders direct off the farm. Here’s a look back at how it all began.

Farming isn’t always sunshine and rainbows…but it’s important to appreciate the days when it is.
